The BLN and BCN support a full line of FRE link modules, providing connectivity for 100BASE-T, Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, MCT1/E1, and serial interfaces. Compatibility of FRE link modules across Bay Networks router products, including the FN, LN, and CN, ensures maximum flexibility and makes sparing efficient and cost-effective. FRE link modules are easy to install and configure. Supporting Frame Relay and PPP, Bay Networks hardware-based data compression coprocessor option forthe Octal Sync link module delivers an aggregate compressed throughput of up to 16 Mbps, which is equal to 4 Mbps full-duplex over two 2-Mbps links. The Octal Sync link module is available in configurations supporting 32 or 128 contexts that use 8K dictionaries. Additionally, each Octal Sync link module features user-configurable dictionary support of hardware and software Data Compression with a combined total exceeding 200 dictionaries.
