A six port non-blocking switch which is used to connect from two to six Compaq ProLiant servers or Professional Workstations in a System Area Network (SAN) Cluster. It provides both tabletop or 1U rack mount placement, supports both "X" and "Y" fabrics selectable at switch installation. It has LED indicators for X/Y fabric, error and power management support. The SAN Switch can be mounted in a 19" Rack as well as tabletop. Mounting brackets are included for permanent fixture or optional sliding rail mounting. Transactions are passed from the SAN NIC through the SAN Switch on either a "X" or "Y" plane or fabric. If both fabrics are in use through redundant SAN Switches then transparent rerouting occurs in the event of a SAN NIC port or SAN Switch failure. The switch utilizes packet switching, Wormhole routing and push pull messaging to insure low latency data transfer. Supports Bi-directional point to point full duplex links and Layers 1- 4 of the OSI Reference Model implemented in hardware. The SAN Switch supports its own fault detection and performance management tools. SNMP alerts are posted for enterprise systems management access. Off-line DOS based diagnostic routines are available through the SAN to perform problem determination. These tools are independent of Compaq Insight Manager at this time.
