The ATLAS 550 VCOM (Voice Compression Module) combines with other ATLAS components to allow voice traffic to share the same lines as data and LAN traffic. A single VCOM Module simultaneously compresses up to 30-channels for transmission over public or private frame relay networks or dedicated leased lines. Voice and data traffic integration yields a dramatic reduction in communication expenses.The ATLAS VCOM Module occupies a single slot in the ATLAS chassis and is available in 8-, 16-, 24-, and 30-channel configurations. A single ATLAS 550 system with a Voice Compression Module installed can simultaneously compress up to 30 channels. The 6:1 compression ratio allows six voice calls to be carried on a single DS-0. The ATLAS VCOM Module interoperates with ADTRAN"s desktop Voice/Data Frame Relay product, the EXPRESS 5200, and ATLAS 800PLUS. The ATLAS VCOM Module automatically detects fax transmissions and locally demodulates the fax sending the baseband component of the fax over the link.
